What courses are offered at a nail technician school? Nail Technicians and Manicurists are trained in cosmetology. They often go by they titles manicurist or pedicurist. They are specifically trained to work on clients hands and feet, giving manicures or pedicures, treatments or nails extensions. Manicurists typically work exclusively on nails, but they may also give hand and foot massages. However, to practice, they re required by most states to be certified or licensed. In general, graduating from a state-licensed or accredited beauty or cosmetology colleges can fulfill this requirement although a separate licensing exam may have to be taken in most schools. Manicure and pedicure training programs focus on more than just look-looking nails. They are also concerned with hygiene and laws that govern working with clients.
Nail Technician Education and Training
Manicurists and pedicurists are required to complete state-approved cosmetology program requirements that are set by their state. In a majority of the the states, after completing the program, soon-to-be professionals must pass a state exam for licensure.
While state licensing requirements vary from state to state, applicants must be at least 16 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, complete the state-approved cosmetology program requirements, and then take a written and practical exam in order to get a license through their state board.
If you would like to work in a nail salon, hotel, or spa,you will need to take additional education courses beyond the licensing process. Most nail technician training takes less than two years to complete, but an apprenticeship can take up to three years.
You would take likely courses in sanitation and sterilization, bacteriology, reflexology, skin and nail anatomy, blood, nail diseases and disorders,as well as practical coursework such as table setup, manicuring and pedicuring, professional nail drill procedures, airbrushing nail art, hand and foot massage techniques, and artificial nail work.
All states require that nail technicians should be licensed or accredited and this requires a prospective nail technician to attend a cosmetology school. By attending a good cosmetology school or nail technician schools, you will train in this area of beauty care.
